Cut down waste

John Grant had an interesting post over on his blog, Legal Value Theory, on what he names as the seven wastes of attorneys.

It’s striking reading through these time wasters that so many of them seem to exemplify the normal ways attorneys practice – over-producing, over-billing, wasting time, etc.

Obviously, in a client-centered practice, these habits have to be curtailed.  Legal software is one tool that some attorneys find useful in trimming some of the waste, as it can engender good habits and organization, but in the end, it all comes back to you, the attorney.

You have to have the self-discipline to manage yourself to minimize time wasting and maximize value, because if you don’t, be sure the next attorney down will… and will start getting your clients.
